Installing Cutenews

Cutenews is an awesome news management system!! It makes letting others know about your updates as easy as blinking or breathing! And best of all, it's free =D But sometimes, it can be a little tricky to install, so that's why I'm here to help!!

First, make sure you can use PHP on your site. If you're on a free host, check to see what file types they allow, but I know that Freewebs doesn't allow PHP. If you're hosted by someone, ask your host if you can have PHP pages, and if you have a domain, well, you're more than likely able to use PHP. Now that you have that settled, let's assume that you have full PHP capabilities.

Go to CutePHP.com and download the latest version of Cutenews. It'll come in a zip folder, so you'll need to unzip it once it's saved on your computer. Usually you right click and go to 'Extract All' or you have to use Winrar.

Once you get it unzipped, go into the 'cutenews' folder, and you'll see a README file. Those are the intructions. If you can understand those, you won't need me anymore, but if it was too confusing, then read on!

Next, you're going to upload that whole 'cutenews' folder to your site. It should be in your root folder so that it's easier to find later. You may have to re-upload your emoticons in binary mode if they don't show up for you later, but anyways. Now you'll have to CHMOD some stuff.

Once all that is uploaded to your website, go into your 'cutenews' folder. You're going to have to change the permissions of the 'data' folder. To do this with SmartFTP, right click on the 'data' folder, and choose 'Properties/CHMOD', like shown below.

When you click on that, the below window will pop up. Where it says 'Permissions', put 777, like shown below.

Now, you'll need to go INTO the 'data' folder, and CHMOD everything in there, as well. So now, highlight all of the files and folders you see, and do the same thing. A slightly different window will pop up, but you still need to put in 777.

Yay!! All your CHMODing's done! Now all you need to do is go ahead and set up everything! Open up the index page of your cutenews folder, which would be something like http://yoursite.com/cutenews/index.php. This will start the setup. You'll end up with this on your screen:

Click 'Proceed Installation', and you'll get a screen that tells you if everything's CHMODed right. If you did the above steps properly, then everything will say 'writable', like this:

Click 'Proceed Installation' again, and you'll be brough to a screen that lets you set all your personal settings. You can put whatever you want for this, so I left my example blank. You'll also have to put the full URL to your cutenews directory, which would be something like http://yoursite.com/cutenews/.

You'll finally be brought to this page, which means the installation has been successful!

And as it says on that page, to get the code to make your news show up on your page, login, go to Options>Integration Wizard, and after that, you'll have to choose the second choice, 'Integrate News into your site'. Then fill out the options, and it'll give you a code! Just put that code where ever you want your news to show up, and you're done! You've just installed Cutenews!
